Bank Statement to CSV with the Columns Your Import Expects
Turn PDF or scanned bank statements into a CSV file laid out the way your accounting app or spreadsheet wants it, with the date format, amount style and column order you pick, and with every statement proven against its closing balance.
A CSV you configure once and reuse
CSV is the most flexible export, and also the one most likely to fail an import when a column is in the wrong place. StatementsConverter lets you set the layout once and save it as a preset for each client or each destination.
- Column choice: date, posted date, description, payee, check number, reference, debit, credit, signed amount, running balance, category, account
- Amount style: one signed column, separate debit and credit columns, or debits as positive numbers with a type column
- Date formats: MM/DD/YYYY, M/D/YYYY, YYYY-MM-DD or DD/MM/YYYY
- Delimiter: comma, semicolon or tab, with UTF-8 encoding and quoted text fields
- Header row on or off, for importers that reject a header
- One CSV per statement, or one merged CSV per account across many periods
Clean descriptions, no broken rows
Statements often wrap a single transaction over two or three printed lines. The converter merges those lines into one description field, so a CSV never contains a half row with a date and no amount.
Three steps from statement to CSV
- Upload PDFs, scans or photos, one file or a full client batch
- Check the extracted table in the browser, where any balance mismatch is marked on its page
- Pick CSV, choose a saved column preset or build a new one, and download
Proof the CSV is complete before you import it
A CSV has no totals inside it, so a missing row is invisible once the file is uploaded somewhere else.
That is why the balance check runs before export, not after. Opening balance plus credits minus debits has to equal the closing balance printed by the bank, statement by statement.
If one page is short by a single transaction, the app shows which page and which rows to look at, and you can add or correct the row in the editor before the CSV is written.
The export screen lists every statement in the file with its check result, so you know the whole batch ties out before anything leaves the app.
Where a bank CSV usually goes
In QuickBooks Online, a CSV goes through the banking upload screen, where you map the date, description and amount columns and choose between one amount column and separate columns for money in and money out. A three column preset with date, description and signed amount is the simplest match.
QuickBooks Desktop does not import a plain bank CSV into its banking center without an add-on, so for Desktop files use the QuickBooks file from the PDF to QBO converter instead.
Xero accepts a CSV statement import too, but it expects its own column template, so the bank statement to Xero export is the better choice there.
For analysis rather than import, such as a cash flow review or a forensic timeline, a CSV with a running balance and a category column opens cleanly in any spreadsheet or database tool.
If the workpaper itself is the deliverable, the PDF bank statement to Excel workbook adds sheets per account and a visible check row.
Presets per client
Each client workspace can keep its own CSV preset, so a bookkeeper running thirty clients does not rebuild the column order every month. A preset stores columns, date format, delimiter, amount style and the header setting.
CSV export on every plan
CSV and Excel exports are part of Starter at 49 USD a month, or 24 USD a month on yearly billing, with 400 pages a month, batches of up to 20 files and the balance check.
Professional adds QuickBooks, Quicken, OFX and Xero files, categorization rules and client workspaces. Compare plans on the pricing page.
